Compare wood, stain and scale
Ancaster holds a 4.7-star rating on Google. That rating holds because the furniture holds. A lot of the reviews mention a piece that looks the same a decade after delivery as it did the week it arrived.
Custom-Built, Not Stocked
Every piece on the floor is custom-built, and so is everything you order. You spec the wood species, dimensions, finish and hardware, and it’s built to it. No particle board, no veneers, no shortcuts.
Woods: cherry, oak, walnut and maple, kiln-dried and sourced locally. Finishes: 30+ hand-applied stains. A six-seat cherry table in a walnut stain and the same table in maple with a natural finish are two different pieces, and both are built to last for generations.
Build timing varies by piece, builder and selected options. We confirm the estimated timeline with your order.
What's on the Floor
Samples across every main category: dining tables and chairs, dressers, hutches, beds, media units and desks. You can compare wood species and finishes side by side, which tells you more in five minutes than a week of browsing online.
The Ancaster staff field a lot of questions about how wood behaves over time. Cherry darkens with age. Maple keeps a lighter tone longer. If you’re choosing between them for a table that’ll see daily use, ask before you order.
Where the Furniture Comes From
Penwood's 20+ master builders work in Mennonite woodworking communities across the region. Hand tools, kiln-dried hardwood, no shortcuts on joinery. Same approach since 1993.
Two trees planted for every one used. All of the wood that enters the shop gets used. Every order traces back to a specific craftsperson and their shop.

What our Ancaster customers say
Excellent customer service at sales and equally during delivery/installation. The quality of the Mennonite furniture is impeccable, well worth the price and we’d be supporting local Canadian businesses selling Canadian made furniture. Highly recommend.
For a long time I have been looking for solid wood dining table and chairs. I visited many different furniture stores. Whatever has been offered wasn't good quality and was substandard. Finally I was pointed in direction of Penwood Furniture stores in Ancaster and Morriston. At both of those locations I had an excellent experience. They offer the highest quality furniture at very reasonable prices. The store stuff was very knowledgeable and helpful. I am very happy that I found that store. I am fully satisfied with my purchases. Delivery was very prompt and right on time. I would strongly recommend Penwood Furniture to anybody.
