Furniture Store Near Hamilton
Furniture Store Serving Hamilton, ON
Penwood doesn't have a showroom in Hamilton itself. The closest one is in Ancaster, at 1242 Garner Rd W, about 15 minutes from downtown Hamilton off Highway 403. Most Hamilton customers make the short drive to see the furniture in person before they order.
Penwood builds Mennonite furniture. Some customers call it Amish-style. The tradition is the same: hand-built by master craftspeople in small workshops on southern Ontario farms, using kiln-dried hardwood from the region. No particle board, no veneers, no shortcuts.
Custom Solid Wood Furniture for Hamilton Homes
Every piece is custom. You choose the wood species, dimensions, finish and hardware. A dining table for a century home on Hamilton Mountain has different proportions than one going into a newer build in the east end, and it gets designed that way.
Woods: cherry, oak, walnut and maple. Finishes: 30+ hand-applied stains. Lead time is 8 to 12 weeks from order confirmation.
Penwood builds full dining rooms, bedroom furniture, home office pieces and living room storage. If it can be made in solid wood, the shop has probably built it.
What Makes It Penwood
Every joint in a Penwood piece is cut by hand. Mortise-and-tenon frames, dovetailed drawers, no staples or glue blocks doing the structural work. It’s the way Mennonite craftspeople in southern Ontario have built furniture for generations, and it’s why a Penwood table holds up to decades of daily use in a busy house. Solid Canadian hardwood throughout, kiln-dried before a single cut. Built to be handed down.
At the Ancaster showroom you can see the joinery for yourself: open a drawer, look at the corners, compare maple against cherry in daylight. The people on the floor know the furniture from the build side and will give you a straight answer on how each wood ages.
The Craft Behind the Furniture
Penwood's 20+ master builders have worked in Mennonite woodworking communities in southern Ontario since the business started in 1993. The wood is sourced locally, dried locally and built locally. Every order goes back to a specific craftsperson and their shop.
Two trees planted for every one used. All of the wood that enters the shop gets used.

Built Different.
Built to Last.
Every Penwood piece is full-thickness solid hardwood — the same wood you see on the surface runs the entire depth of every board, every leg, every joint. No particle board cores. No veneer surfaces. No compromises.
Our furniture is built by Ontario Mennonite craftspeople using traditional joinery — mortise-and-tenon joints, dovetail drawers, hand-fitted connections. These are pieces built to be passed down, not replaced.
